Reading Ashok Mitran’s one-act play describing the dialogues between Kasturba, Mahatma, Hari and Devadas is very touching. People who were born in the forties will remember the patriotic lessons and Bharati’s songs that were taught in the elementary schools. So whenever we listen to the national anthem, Raghupathy Raghava and the like, it makes our hearts melt. We feel proud on seeing yesterday’s fantastic display of Republic Parade processions and the songs associated with floats of each State. At the same time, we can’t but feel depressed how after decades of independence, our country has become what it is today. I can’t find one sane, wise voice among the ruling class or opposition talking about basic decent governance. Alas, what we’ve lost and how we should redeem ourselves from the self inflicted damages that happened to the national polity since independence?

Suki Sivam’s speeches are always down to earth. The techniques he narrates for saving energy, saving water and recycling ways. help to remind ourselves how we should adapt ourselves to living close to the nature. About serving food on plantain leaves, he says that the first items should be salt and pickles, followed by ‘payasam’ and other dishes. I always thought that ‘payasam’ should be the first one to be served. Any day, it is nice to listen to Suki Sivam’s lectures. Btw, I had missed your earlier post on May 30. 2016 which showed the humorous video of eating on banana leaf. Very interesting!

Who travels with us until our end? Probably, many of us like me would say it is the spouse. Only recently I too came across a WhatsApp message which said that It is none other than the body that comes along with us from birth to death. This very simple thought makes a lot of sense. Along with body, the mind and soul, and above all, our thoughts (surprisingly, thoughts travel backwards and jump decades, all in a moment!) come along with us till we depart. KM very clearly put this idea into so many crisp pointers that are worthy of absorption and action.
